Walter Byron Emery was born September 28, 1907 in Howell, Ohio. Emery was involved in broadcasting and education for much of his career, serving on the Federal Communications Commission's legal staff in 1935, 1936, and from 1943 to 1953. KUSD was the name of a former AM radio station run by the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota, and a current FM radio station run by South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
